AbstractThis article discusses depression from a psychoanalytic perspective, examining its causes, manifestations, and therapeutic approaches. Drawing on Freud, Klein, Bowlby, and other theorists, it integrates key concepts such as mourning, melancholia, defense mechanisms, object relations, and attachment theory. By revisiting classic case studies, the paper highlights how unconscious conflicts shape psychic suffering. It concludes that psychoanalysis remains a valuable framework for understanding and treating depression in contemporary clinical practice.
