Transference and affective bond in the teacher-student relationship: psychoanalytic contributions to thinking the school as a space of subjectivation
Keywords:

This article examines the psychoanalytic concept of transference as a tool for reading the affective bonds constituted in the teacher–student relationship. The argument reconstitutes the Freudian formulation of transference as repetition and displacement of infantile affective dispositions, follows the Lacanian rereading that situates it in the function of the subject supposed to know, and mobilises the Winnicottian notion of the good-enough environment in order to think the holding function exercised by the school. These elaborations are then confronted with the Brazilian pedagogical tradition, particularly with Paulo Freire's ethics of dialogue and his critique of naming the schoolteacher "auntie", and with the literature at the interface between psychoanalysis and education. It is argued that transference is not a phenomenon restricted to the analytic setting but a structural condition of every bond in which knowledge is supposed in the other, and that recognising it at school does not psychologise teaching but restores the ethical dimension of the educational bond. Finally, it is argued that transposing the concept demands caution: the teacher does not occupy the analyst's place, does not interpret and does not conduct treatment, and it is precisely the delimitation of this boundary that renders the psychoanalytic contribution usable in teacher education.
